About Us

Founded in 1979, NEIHA for its first session held at Shillong in1980 had only 67 members, but today the organization has more than 1700 Life Members besides Annual and Institutional Members. Our members are from all the states in the Northeast, and a good number of them are also from other parts of the country and even from other countries (like Japan, Taiwan, UK, Germany, Canada, the USA and Bangladesh). We always publish the Proceedings Volumes of our annual sessions before the next session. These Volumes are considered as very valuable reference materials on Northeast India and are in great demand throughout the country and outside. We also hold two endowments for triennial lectures, namely, H. K. Barpujari Endowment Lectures and H. L. Gupta Endowment Lectures. These lectures are delivered by eminent scholars in Northeast India Studies. Each lecture is published by NEIHA as a book authored by the speaker. Some of our proceedings volumes and endowment lectures are already out of print and we have been receiving requests for reprinting. In fact, we are considering reprinting some of those publications.
